About David Weiss, MD

Dr. David Weiss is an accomplished board-certified psychiatrist with over 22 years of experience as a clinician, administrator, educator, and researcher. He has held numerous leadership roles in the public and private sector. Dr. Weiss joins MindCare from Universal Health Services (UHS) in Colorado where he has held several leadership roles including Medical Director, Assistant Medical Director and Chief of Staff. Along with David Morris, he was able to successfully transform the UHS facility from a start-up to a leader in the Colorado behavioral healthcare market. Prior to joining UHS, Dr. Weiss was Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and was attending psychiatrist at Denver Health Medical Center where he provided psychiatric services on the inpatient units, consultation services to the medical and surgical departments, and evaluations in the psychiatric emergency setting. He was actively involved in medical student and resident education and was chosen by the psychiatric residents to receive the Shore Award for outstanding teaching and resident support. Prior to Denver Health, Dr. Weiss was the co-medical director for a multistate, multidisciplinary behavioral healthcare delivery system. From that venture, he founded his own company where he successfully partnered with a national managed care company to develop quality programs to improve access to members and lower emergency room utilization. With his broad training in medical and surgical care prior to beginning his psychiatric residency, Dr. Weiss has been an active consultant to his medical colleagues and frequently lectures on psychiatric topics both to the medical community and general public. He has been recognized as an expert in psychiatry providing expert testimony throughout the country. Dr. Weiss is a fellow in the American Psychiatric Association and a member of the Colorado Psychiatric Society. He received his undergraduate degree with distinction in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Colorado, Boulder. He completed his medical degree at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and conducted clinical research into a range of psychiatric disorders including addiction, depression, and eating disorders.
